Before actually getting my career day with Jordan Garrett I was very excited to see what it would be like to run your own business; I was also wanting to see how much responsibility you need to have as a personal business owner.
On the day of shadowing Jordan Garrett I was able to ask some very deep and intellectual questions. I was surprised to see how easy going and understanding he was. I was given easy tips on how to make the right decisions in life, and overall I was glad to be able to talk to such an inspiring person. Later on in the day I got to go to a job site and use some of the heavy equipment that the workers use everyday. This was the most enjoyable part of the day because I was working and learning what it takes to be your own boss and what the expectations are. There was also another side to his job, it was doing legal paperwork at home, paying his workers, bidding on jobs, making phone calls regarding the jobs, and buying equipment and materials. I also was able to ask Mr. Garrett some interview questions. The most important question that I got to ask him was
What are the most important rules and practices that you must follow in order to be considered a dedicated and responsible professional? He gave me a one word answer and elaborated on it. His answer was empathy. Being able to understand people's emotions and to reflect based on them is the most important thing to be considered a professional in the workspace. Creating a relationship between your boss, coworkers, customers, etc... Will benefit you the most in the long run. The answer that he had given me had really struck me. The simplicity that one word could mean so much baffled me.
Overall I was so amazed and appreciative that he had taken the time out of his own day to show me what it is going to take for me to achieve my goals and how far I can go in my own life as long as I work hard. Here is a picture of me inside of the piece of heavy machinery that they were using that day
